Being a Reporter at the International Press in Model United Nations

I hate procrastination!

It was back in November of 2022 when I thought of writing this post. I had attended my first ever Model United Nations (MUN) - St. Xavier's College MUN - and yet received the Best Reporter Award from the International Press Committee. I was driven to write a post and even create a YouTube video sharing the inexpressible joy. Nonetheless, it never happened, and came the second MUN of my life - Kathmandu World School MUN - a MUN that had really good hype. Again, the motivation I gained from the first MUN was already pushing me to my second award at the second MUN. Indeed, it happened. I won the Best Reporter award at this MUN, too.

If you are excited reading about my achievement of 2 awards in 2 MUNs. Let me tell you this, the three days in both MUNs came with 10 hours of sleep only.

An International Press Committee has two delegations: A reporter and A Photographer. Choosing to be a photographer over a reporter will reward you with plenty amount of sleep - it shall be a Good Night. If you are choosing a reporter over the other, you gotta think about it a hundred times. Thinking about sleep will give you nightmares. Honestly, so many reports, interviews, articles, and preparation for the Press Conference, all of these take so much time that you can barely focus on any other activity, not even your Good Night's sleep.

How can I miss telling you the most difficult task of being a reporter? You ought to stay two full days in a MUN Committee that you are assigned, hearing the debates between delegations from various countries, yet having nothing to speak but to write down anything and everything that happened during the committee, from intense debates to random gossip. If you find yourself incapable of doing these, I reckon International Press is not a wise choice for you.

It would be unfair if I said I learned a few things from MUN. It taught me a lot of things. Despite International Press not being a social committee, interactions with the Head and Editor-In-Chief will teach you great things.

What's more pleasing is hearing "No Comments" from the delegates. During the press conference, we - the reporters have the privilege of asking questions to the delegates. When the questions are literally tough and the delegates refrain from answering them, we gain additional points. Moreover, hearing multiple "No Comments" made me feel special during the MUNs.

It was only during MUNs I never procrastinated!

It is going to be an abrupt ending but see you in another article!
